Wow!!! This was actually my first time out to find some NEW images for the longest time!!!! My idea was to find beauty in my own back yard and to make all the images as diverse as possible. I also only wanted to photograph things as they were, with the lighting as was found, and getting the best photographs possible without removing or rearranging things… How about have a ‘backyard’ challenge like I did guys…

An experiment in Iphoneography…

What do you do when a photographic situation arises? You use whatever photographic equipment you have on you at the time… So, most of the the time, a lot of people at least have a phone camera!!! That’s exactly what happened to me in this situation… a skink on the transparent corrugation of my tool shed roof. Original, unaltered pic first, then with a bit of fun on some app filters (a great fun part of photographing on phones). The phone camera is an amazing tool really, when you think that if you have a decent quality one, then you’ll never miss those unforeseen interesting moments!!!

My personal fave is the final one… still very natural, but more clarity given to the lizard, and texture to the whole thing… But everyone will have a different perspective…

Really fun experimenting with some phone app filters actually!!!

So get your phone out guys, and click away… because the best camera you have, is often the only one with you!!!

Ode to a loyal friend…

Unfortunately my little family faced a very sad loss two nights ago. Our beautiful old dog Kya passed away, and has left a huge hole in our lives… I have three extremely upset little children, as our Kya has been there for their entire little lives. My own heart feels as if it has broken right in half. I was lucky to have such a loyal friend for a huge 14 years. Today’s post is therefore a collection of a few photos from her life. R.I.P. my beautiful girl… Life will not be the same without my loyal friend by my side.

I was given a chance to teach some local school kids about photography…

I was extremely lucky to be asked recently to teach a photography lesson to Upper Primary School children. I wondered, what could I teach these kids to improve ANY photos on ANY basic equipment in the timespan of an hour and a half? I ended up coming up with a short tutorial, and then sent the children on a photographic scavenger hunt.

Seeing these kids get excited and inspired about photography was extremely satisfying, and has definitely helped my own creative ideas start flowing again. I think they did a pretty good job since most had rarely touched a camera…

A small series

Upon going through my photos, I have realised that I tend to take a ‘series’ of photos. I walk around my subject of interest and and take different views that appeal to me. I think it’s quite akin to ‘storytelling’ in effect, and the only rule that entices me to take a particular shot is is that I find it visually appealing…. This particular locomotive is one of the few that children are still allowed to play on. A rarity in today’s world where most are fenced off for fear of litigation.

You don’t need expensive equipment…

This was taken only a couple of months ago…. and through a glass window if you can believe it!!! No fancy camera, just a ‘point and shoot that I kept very still in the rare moment that he was!!! This was taken at the Hall’s Gap Zoo, a fabulous small town zoo that WAY outperforms any visitor’s expectations I think…

PROJECT RE-IGNITION

I’m going to start my journey of re-igniting my passion of photography with an image I took almost a decade ago. This one was actually a real surprise to me, as I was searching for a completely different photo that I’d like to post as a first…

Hope you enjoy it!!!

P.S. This photo made me think, ‘I need to crack out the camera”.  If I can inspire anyone to ‘crack out THEIR camera’, then life is good!!!
